The Near Westside Initiative (NWSI) is a 501(c)3 non-profit community development organization that works alongside residents to support and sustain a strong dynamic neighborhood that enhances the quality of living for all who work, play, and sleep in Syracuse’s Near Westside.

Neighborhood Engagement
Resident leadership and involvement is core value that drives everything we do. From holiday gatherings to community dialogues and youth development, there is always something happening here.
Arts + Community Placemaking
We leverage the power of art in all its forms to enhance the quality of life in our community through the creation of accessible artist hubs that serve both Westside residents and the broader Central New York community.
Property Development
NWSI has successfully put 225,000 square feet of abandoned building stock back into productive use as mixed-use residential and commercial spaces, as well as shared community facilities.
